Pierwsza część spotkania odbędzie się w sali wykładowej SGH i będzie uświetniona wykładem Karela van Hulle, pt. „The Solvency II Review: the best is the enemy of the good.” Abstrakt wykładu oraz przedstawienie prelegenta znajduje się na dole niniejszej wiadomości. Wykład odbędzie się w języku angielskim.
Po zakończeniu prelekcji naszego gościa specjalnego przejdziemy pieszo do restauracji Cafe Mozaika (tej samej co w 2019 roku), co będzie miało miejsce około godziny 19:00. Odległość do restauracji wynosi 1 km (trasa).

The Solvency II 2020 Review is the first review of the Solvency II framework since it became operational in 2016. The review is intended to be more than a mere technocratic exercise and incorporates EU policies, such as the EU Capital Markets Union, the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Finance Strategy. The lecture will present a critical overview of the European Commission’s proposal. It will comment on the negotiations in the Council and in the European Parliament, reflect on the role of the actuarial function under the present and the new regime and conclude with some remarks about things to avoid in order to ensure that Solvency II continues to deliver the desired outcome in terms of policyholder protection.
O prelegencie:
Professor Karel Van Hulle lectures at the Economics and Business Faculty of the KU Leuven and at the Economics Faculty of the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
After serving eight years with the Belgian Banking Commission, he joined the EC in 1984 where he held responsibilities for accounting, auditing, company law and insurance and pensions and was responsible for the development of Solvency II.
After his retirement from the EC in 2013, he became member of the Public Interest Oversight Board until April 2021 and member of the Board of the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
Karel van Hulle is a lawyer by training. He studied law at the KU Leuven and at the Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee.
Professor Van Hulle was nominated Distinguished International Lecturer in Accounting by the American Accounting Association in 1990, Distinguished Fellow of the IAIS in 2013 and Honorary Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2014.
In 2019, he summarised his experience with the development of Solvency II in a book “Solvency Requirements for EU Insurers. Solvency II is good for you”, Intersentia, Cambridge, Antwerp, Chicago, ISBN 978-1-78068-177-1, 727 p.
